“Smokey and the Bandit” in Theatres Sunday

Wednesday, May 25, 2022 by Senior Daily Staff

A 45th anniversary showing of Smokey and the Bandit will be presented in many theatres starting Sunday, May 29, 2022.

Starring Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, Sally Field, Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed, Smokey and the Bandit delivers outrageous laughs in one of the biggest box-office hits of all time. Bandit (Reynolds), a fun-loving, fast-talking trucker, takes on his craziest haul yet—delivering 400 cases of beer from Texarkana to Atlanta in just 28 hours.

This 45th anniversary event includes exclusive insights from Turner Classic Movies.  It will be shown on Sunday, May 29, and Wednesday, June 1, and Thursday, June 2, 2022.

The film started slow but eventually grossed $126,737,428 in North America, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 1977 (only Star Wars earned more, with $775.5 million). The worldwide gross is estimated at over $300 million. Reynolds said in 2015 that he most enjoyed this film, and had the most fun making it, of his career.

The New York Times called the movie “brainless fun.”  For tickets and more information visit:
