Lily Tomlin Honored by AARP

Lily Tomlin, 82, will receive the AARP Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award in a PBS broadcast on Friday, March 18, 2022.

“Lily Tomlin has been making us laugh, cry and think for five decades. For this and for many other reasons, she is the 2022 recipient of the AARP Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award,” AARP said in their announcement.

“She will be honored at the 20th-anniversary awards ceremony, which will be broadcast on Friday, March 18, on PBS’ Great Performances, hosted by Alan Cumming.”  For details visit:

Lily Tomlin in 2017Ms. Tomlin said, “I am honored to receive this award from AARP. There are so few grownups in the world. I am happy to be one. I feel I am not only a grownup, but I am mature for my age and that’s the truthhhhh!”

The virtual awards ceremony, to be hosted by Alan Cumming, which will also include recognition for 2021’s best films and television series, including best actor, best actress, best director, best picture/best movie for grownups, best series, best TV movie/limited series, and more.

The Career Achievement Award is the Movies for Grownups highest honor.  Last year’s Movies for Grownups Career Achievement award went to George Clooney.  Other previous honorees include Kevin Costner, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Shirley MacLaine, Helen Mirren, Robert Redford, and Susan Sarandon.

Additional awards to be presented at the AARP Movies for Grownups ceremony, and the nominees, include:

Best Picture: Belfast, King Richard, The Power of the Dog, West Side Story and Being the Ricardos.

Best Actor: Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Javier Bardem, Jim Broadbent and Peter Dinklage.

Best Actress: Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock and Helen Mirren.
