TCM At-Home Film Fest

By Senior Daily Staff Last Updated Sunday, July 24, 2022 1:11 pm

Turner Classic Movies has a stay-at-home Classic Film Festival this weekend, with a special showing of Singin’ in the Rain on Sunday, April 19, 2020.

TCM’s regular Classic Film Festival, held in Hollywood every Spring, was canceled due to the Coronavirus epidemic and so TCM created home version.  Fans are invited to join the TCM community in watching classic movies and clips from past film festivals, including interviews with classic film stars.  The event runs from Thursday, April 16, 2020,  through Sunday, April 19.

“This is a remote and ‘please stay home’ celebration of some movies and moments from the past decade at the TCM Classic Film Festival,” said Ben Mankiewicz, host of TCM.

“It will be a long weekend of films that have been screened at the festival alongside guests and special festival clips and other gems from the TCM archive,” he added.

The schedule includes  “A Star is Born” (1954), starring Judy Garland; the masterpiece of Fritz lang “Metropolis” (1927),  the Beatles first film, “A Hard Day’s Night” (1964), Cary Grant in “North by Northwest “(1959), Marilyn Monroe in “Some Like It Hot “(1959), Humphrey Bogart in “Casablanca” (1942),  David Lean’s “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962) and Gene Kelly in “Singin ‘in the Rain.”

Below is the official trailer for “Singin in the Rain,” which is showing at 6 pm ET on Sunday, April 19, 2020.

TCM says they intend to have their regular film festival return in the Spring of 2021.

“Held over four days in the heart of Hollywood, the TCM Classic Film Festival is a place where movie lovers from around the world can gather to experience classic movies as they were meant to be experienced: on the big screen, in some of the world’s most iconic venues, with the people who made them. Moreover, the TCM Classic Film Festival strives to be a place where a community of movie fans of all ages can share their love of classic movies with each other, make new friends and see films as they are seldom seen today,” TCM said.

“It is our intention to produce the best TCM Classic Film Festival yet in the Spring of 2021. We expect dates for the 2021 TCM Classic Film Festival to be announced in the late summer or early fall of 2020.”
