Here what’s new in August 2023 from the major TV streaming services. Highlights include Dark Winds on AMC+, Hijack on Apple TV+, Only Murders in the Building 3 on Hulu, and Depp vs. Heard on Netflix.

What’s On Acorn TV

Acorn TV specializes in British shows, particularly British mystery collections like The Best of Agatha Christie, the Poirot Collection, Vera, and Jericho of Scotland Yard.

What’s On Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has dozens of original series and movies, plus thousands of new and classic TV shows and movies.  An Amazon Prime membership gives you both Prime Video plus free shipping on Amazon orders, free Prime Music, and more benefits.

What’s On AMC+

AMC+ has exclusive new series like The Ipcress File and classic series like Mad Men and The Walking Dead.  AMC+ also has top shows from BBC America, IFC, Sundance TV, Shudder, Sundance Now and IFC Films Unlimited.

Apple TV+ Subscription Deals

Apple TV+ has exclusive movies like Spirited, series like Ted Lasso and Slow Horses, and documentaries like Prehistoric Planet.

What’s On BritBox

BritBox is another streaming service like Acorn TV that specializes in British TV shows and movies.  BritBox shows include British mystery collections like The Best of Agatha Christie, the Poirot Collection, Vera, and Jericho of Scotland Yard. BritBox also offers original series like “Karen Pirie” and classics like Vera, Inspector Morse and Father Brown.

What’s On The Criterion Channel

What’s On HBO Max

HBO Max – now rebranded as just “Max” – is HBO’s online streaming service that gives you access to HBO’s original series such as Succession, Game of Thrones, plus many movies, recent and classic, and TV series such as Friends.  HBO also partners with TCM to bring you many classic movies like The Maltese Falcon and Asphalt Jungle.  Max also includes many popular shows from Discovery, HGTV, and Food Network.

What’s On Hulu

What’s On MGM+

MGM+ – formerly called Epix – is an American premium cable and satellite television network owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The channel’s programming consists of recent and older theatrically released motion pictures, original series, documentaries, and music and comedy specials.

Netflix Subscription Deals

What’s On Paramount+

Paramount+ (formerly known as CBS All Access) offers original series like 1883,  Mayor of Kingstown, and Star Trek Discovery  plus your favorite CBS shows.

What’s On Peacock

Peacock is a streaming service from NBCUniversal with full seasons of exclusive originals; next-day airings of current NBC, Bravo, and Telemundo hits; can’t-miss live sports; plus thousands of hours of TV shows and movies available.

What’s On Starz

Starz offers theatrically released motion pictures and first-run original television series such as Outlander, Power Book and Heels.

What’s On Sundance Now

Sundance Now is known for true crime, thriller films and shows like John Le Carre’s The Little Drummer Girl and The Pact. Sundance Now content comes free with AMC+.

What’s On Topic

Topic is a streaming service that has international series and films from more than 40 countries, including Nordic Noir, French political thrillers, and supernatural mysteries from Italy and Senegal.

Topic’s originals include the Agatha Christie inspired series, Hjerson.  You can watch the Topic channel on any Roku TV or with a TV that has a Roku device attached.

Free TV Streaming Channels

In addition to the premier, fee-based TV streaming services there are several that are always free, though like regular TV, they are supported by advertising and you’ll have to suffer through commercials.  Here they are.

Freevee

Freevee is a free streaming service from Amazon. Freevee has many new and classic movies, and Amazon Prime Video original series like Bosch and Schitt’s Creek.

Notable series on Freevee include Bosch, Schitt’s Creek, The Chosen, Manhattan and Lost.

Pluto TV

Pluto TV offers live TV channels plus on-demand movies and TV shows.  Pluto TV is owned by ViacomCBS and was founded in 2013.  As of March 2020 Pluto TV has deals with 170 content partners providing more than 250 channels worth of programming. Its content is available via its website and supported apps. As of March 2020, the service averages more than 20 million monthly active users.

Notable movie offerings include new and old classic movies like many of the James Bond movies, Terminator, Bull Durham, and In Harm’s Way.  Also available are series TV shows like Midsomer Murders, Third Rock from the Son, Duck Dynasty, the Dick Van Dyke Show, the Adams Family and Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations.

Free always: Pluto TV

Tubi

Tubi is an ad-supported free steaming service owned by Fox. It offers over 20,000 older TV shows and movies to watch for free.

Notable movie offerings include popular movies like The Passion, Total Recall, Quigley Down Under, Zulu, Rio Lobo, and The Big Short. Also available are series TV shows like Alf, Dead Zone, 3rd Rock from the Sun and The Apprentice.
