Film star Tom Hanks is the guest host on Turner Classic Movies on Saturday, May 20, 2023, introducing “Casablanca” and more of his favorite films.
Hanks is a double winner of Academy Awards, winning Best Actor for his starring roles in Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). Hanks is currently starring in “A Man Called Otto,” now showing on Netflix. He also recently authored a novel, “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece,” available on Amazon.
At 8 pm Eastern, Hanks will join TCM host Ben Mankiewicz to introduce one of his favorite movies, “Casablanca.” Below is a clip from his TCM appearance.
Casablanca is a 1942 American romantic drama film directed by Michael Curtiz, and starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid. Filmed and set during World War II, it focuses on an American expatriate (Bogart) who must choose between his love for a woman (Bergman) and helping her husband (Henreid), a Czechoslovak resistance leader, escape from the Vichy-controlled city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Germans. The supporting cast features Claude Rains, Conrad Veidt, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, and Dooley Wilson.
